Orange and Ginger Tea

Today I have two questions. Could you answer them with me please? I will give you a bit of help to start with.

First where does our appreciation for hot food come from?  Let’s just consider a well known fact: already during the Palaeolithic, or stone age, our ancestors used fire to warm up and cook food.

And why do we like seasoned food? Research suggests that animals, like for exemple monkeys from the Japanese Kashima island,  who had first started washing up they food by immersing sweet potatoes into rivers before eating them, not satisfied with it, at some point began dipping them in seawater rather them in rivers (FLANDRIN, 1998). In this way they started enjoying seasoned salt potatoes. They were smart, weren’t they?




And before you answer the questions above let’s enjoy this special recipe that works perfectly during a cold day, like the one that I decided to prepare this delicious hot and seasoned orange and ginger tea.


  • 1 cup water
  • 1 cup orange juice (if organic and fresh even better)
  • 1 tablespoon peeled and sliced ginger root
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • And honey to taste

Let’s prepare it.

1 – Put the water in a saucepan add the ginger and bring to boil.

2- Remove the ginger from the water (if you would like the tea a little bit stronger leave the ginger in the water for  a bit longer).

3- Add the orange and lemon juice, leave the mix on fire until it just barely boils.

4 – Add honey and stir. Well done! It is ready to serve.

If you wish you can season the tea by sprinkling some spices as cinnamon, clove or star anise.
